Company History

On a cold and wintry December day, the Sisters of the Holy Cross opened the doors of Boise's first hospital. It was 1894 and it was the start of more than a century of commitment to providing the people of Boise and the region with the highest quality health care available.

People of the area have benefitted time and again from the Saint Alphonsus commitment to continue the healing work of Jesus through compassionate care using the most advanced technology. It was the first year of the 20th Century when the Sisters brought the very first X-ray machine to Idaho. Today, guided by those same traditions of compassion and excellence, the latest and most innovative technology is utilized by numerous doctors, nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals and support staff. They bring healing to literally thousands of patients each year.

In 1979, hospitals of the Sisters of the Holy Cross across the nation were brought together in the Holy Cross Health System. Sisters of Mercy, Detroit, Michigan, were operating with similar values in the system, Mercy Health Services. Discussions led to the two organizations consolidating and forming Trinity Health in May of 2000.

As a member of Trinity Health, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center has a heightened ability to draw upon a great national resource. This enables Saint Alphonsus to continue the mission of delivering the highest quality, most cost effective health care to our patients while still acting in the spirit of compassion initiated by the Sisters of the Holy Cross over a century ago.
